Other Bios – Indeterminate Transhumans

“Indeterminate transhumans” simply means that their moral orientation is unclear. They are either an unknown quantity (possibly hero or possibly villain), they are for hire to either side (mercenaries, consultants, etc.), they are totally neutral, their methods are contradictory (villainous “Robin Hood” types or fighting crime with excessive and lethal force), or they in some other way are impossible to categorize on either the side of good or the side of evil.

Cheshire

A highly talented and powerful Luminar, Cheshire is able to not only render herself invisible for long periods of time but can selectively determine whether to be entirely invisible or reveal parts of her body. She can also appear to be as many as four feet from her true position by manipulating light, and she can bend and mask infrared and ultraviolet light as well. There is no documented evidence that she has any other light-based powers, though it is assumed she does, and many speculate that she is an Acro, Primal and/or Speedster as well. Cheshire is for hire by anyone with enough money who needs her to gather information, using her espionage, surveillance and computer skills. She has managed to maintain a pretty good balance between her hero, villain and non-transhuman clients. She will not take any job that pits her against a current or recurring (regular) client. She once wore a single style of costume, but now has a series of different ones designed by Julian Gregori. The only consistent theme on her costumes now is her personal symbol, which is a stylized “C” with a pair of small triangles on top (suggesting the ears of a cat) and the lower curve of the “C” suggesting a Cheshire Cat grin.

Conundrum / Paradox / Enigma

The transhuman triplets known as Conundrum, Paradox and Enigma (two sisters and a brother) are all Psionics, though the full nature of their powers is unknown. It is suspected that one or more of them may possess abilities in the Primal, Brain, Sensor and/or Regenerator categories as well. They specialize in “acquiring” people who are hard to get to (kidnapping victims, suspects of crimes, witnesses to crimes, fugitives, etc.) and have worked primarily for law enforcement or legitimate private interests, but also have been hired by shady characters at times. They have a firm no-kill/no harm rule in terms of their own actions, and they will not abduct a person so that a criminal can then ransom that person.

Ladykiller

A Sensor with enhanced vision, hearing and scent, Ladykiller is a vigilante who primarily targets rapists and others who violate women (serial killers, pimps, etc.) and is known to sometimes dole out punishments that many would consider out of proportion to the perpetrator’s crime. Of course, in some cases, there are those who say she doesn’t go far enough. Ladykiller is armed and armored to compensate for her lack of combat-oriented powers, but also possesses a competent level of martial arts skill. Over her mangled left hand she wears a clawed gauntlet, with only three fingers and thumb. The rest of her costume is fairly simple: An ivory-colored bodysuit with light armor in select places, and a similarly colored mask with skull imagery on it—highly realistic on one side and more abstract on the other.

Asclepius

Although he doesn’t have any affiliations with villains, Asclepius counts a few vigilante and mercenary types among his clientele; also he doesn’t actually engage in any “heroics”—hence his “indeterminate” status. What he does do, primarily, is to provide healing services to various heroes, using his very powerful Regenerator talents, which are guided by Psionic abilities (clairvoyance and perhaps others). Those in his clientele are rigorously screened and must adhere to certain security precautions to call in Asclepius’ services, as some of the more violent villains would take great pleasure in removing Asclepius from service. Numerous heroes volunteer to serve rotating shifts as his bodyguard when he is on duty, mostly in case Asclepius has an emergency call in the field for a hero felled by a villain in combat—though mostly he meets heroes in pre-arranged locations. His financial support comes in part by regular monthly contributions from some of the more financially secure heroes, while other heroes pay him what they can, if they have any money to give him.
